New Fire Safety Guidance Published...

The eagerly awaited revised Part B has now been published for an implementation on the 6th April 2007. Numerous changes are made and include, amongst others, for:-

> A suitable water supply for fire fighting eg fire hydrants to be provided on all developments over 280m2, or a standing source / tanked supply.

> Sprinkler protection on not particularly large warehouse development or the introduction of additional compartmentation. This has been a fundamental shift from the draft which allowed for a volume of 440,000m3 rather than the on line version which only allows for a floor area of 20,000m2

> Removal of same site ownership for un protected areas.

> Introduction of residential sprinkler protection.

> Introduction of HTM 05 for hospital design.

> New design standards for residential care and health care premises.

> Introduction of BB100 for school design.

> New guidance on galleries, small premises,fire alarms, escape window, window restrictors.

> Reference to building management and the interface with the occupied building.

> Schemes of self certification.
