Fire Certificates .... No More
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is now in place.
The Fire Safety Order reforms the law relating to fire safety in non-domestic premises. Specifically it replaces fire certification under the Fire Precautions Act 1971 with a general duty to take such fire precautions as may be reasonably required to ensure that the premises are safe for the occupants and those in the immediate vicinity together with a duty to carry out a risk assessment.
The Order applies to all non-domestic premises, which includes the common parts of apartment buildings and both the common and shared parts of HMO's.
At Approved Design we will continue to advise on measures that are necessary to satisfy the requirements of the Building Regulations but will also recommend those design features that may be incorporated into building works to ensure that any risk assessment in occupation is assisted by good in built fire safety design.
We will continue to consult with the Fire Authority on all our projects so as to maintain continuity and surety in the design process.
