Future of Building Regulations

“The Next Steps”

Your chance to help us to identify the changes needed to Building Regulations.

A statement was made by the Building Regulations Minister Andrew Stunell on 16th December 2010 setting out “the next steps” on the review of Building Regulations. This will be a review of both content and process taking place over spring 2012

The aim is not only to establish where regulation is to be changed or updated but also to look for where we can strip away regulation – either because it is unnecessary or where  there are other ways to achieve the same outcomes.

While Building Regulations have achieved a great deal over the years, it is vital that they are managed and maintained carefully.  Andrew Stunell wants to ensure that Building Regulations are proportionate and remain fit-for-purpose, responding appropriately to changes in technology, science, build practices and construction techniques.  He is also particularly keen to explore what more can be done to ensure people comply with those requirements.

Andrew has asked for ideas about how the regulations can be improved, slimmed down or added to, and suggestions as to how to deliver even better levels of compliance in the future, backed up by evidence from your daily work.
