Approved Deisgn have worked with many leading cinema operators to utilise the new fire safety design code BS 9999 on new projects, which has resulted in safer buildings and capital cost savings.
The benefits the code brings to schemes includes increased travel distances, reduced width of escape doors, corridors and staircases. These have been achieved by taking into account features of the scheme which already existed: -
- Auditoriums being fire compartments (generally simple to achieve due to acoustic performance)
- Enhanced fire detection
- Strong management regime and staff training
- High ceiling heights
Where cinema complexes are within shopping centres the early appointment of Approved Design has lead to the omission of sprinkler protection associated with this type of premise and capital cost savings passed onto the client.
